Okku Dubai was voted the Restaurant of the Year at yesterday's Caterer Middle East Awards 2011.

The restaurant beat out stiff competition from nine other shortlisted outlets, and was chosen as the winner by the judges due to its contribution to the Middle East F&B industry, and its ability to drive the industry forward.

The judges were also impressed by Okku's range of F&B offerings, as well as its sucess in business — despite opening during the global economic crisis.

Okku operations manager Ross Ledingham who accepted the award for Okku said: “We couldn’t be happier. This is one of the things you work all year for so all in all, we are chuffed to bits."

The win was Okku’s third of the evening, and reflected the restaurant’s success over the past 12 months.

"When you start a concept five years ago on a piece of paper and then you get to this day where you win three awards in one night…. There’s no such thing in the Middle East as Michelin stars, or rosettes, and this is effectively the Middle East's version of Michelin stars."

Highly commended in this category were Cavalli Club, Restaurant and Lounge, Dubai, and Bussola Restaurant, The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi.
