Hotel bathrooms without bathtubs are becoming increasingly popular, according to manufacturer Kohler.
“We see many hoteliers removing the bath altogether and replacing it with a larger, more luxurious shower. This reduces the overall space dedicated to bathing, while allowing the guest a great experience every day,” said Kohler new product development director Mark Bickerstaffe.
He labelled this as a popular design trend, as hoteliers focus more time and energy designing “great showering experiences” for their guests.
“Business travellers don’t have time to bathe, but they still wish to have spa-like experiences in the time they shower,” asserted Bickerstaffe.
As a result, Bickerstaffe said many shower-enhancing products were gaining popularity in the market, including rain showerheads, hand sprays and multiple body sprays.
The banishing of the bath is not an attempt to reduce bathroom budgets but the opposite, according to Bickerstaffe: “Hoteliers are spending more money on bathrooms driven primarily by the guest’s desire to find an oasis after a hectic day of work and travel.”
He added that, “cutting edge designers are finding ways to create spa-like experiences with great showers, uncluttered spaces and warm natural stone finishes.”
However, he said losing the water-intensive bathtub could be influenced by a desire to be more sustainable.
“On almost every project we work, the owners and designers are looking for ways to save water and run their properties more efficiently.”
Bickerstaffe concluded by adding that: “Kohler has worked hard over the last several years to offer products that save water, look great, do not cost more — all while not impacting the guest experience”.
