James R Wilson, GM, Dusit Thani Dubai explains that investment in colleagues is paramount, as they “stand at the foot of success” for any good business

When compiling the business strategy at the end of each year, all businesses look at how they can maximise their profit for the year to come. For some, they resort to expenditure cutting, however, very few see the potential of investing more in their colleagues. As the saying goes, you have to speculate to accumulate.

This has always been a philosophy of mine. Our colleagues stand at the foot of our success and I have always sought to find new methods to increase their development and empower them further.

This year has already started strong for us. We now have a robust HR team in place, and our newly appointed HR director, Mike Audrain, is firmly behind driving us towards the next IIP certification.

Mike, coming from a strong learning and development background, has helped influence this year’s business strategy through investing further in our colleague’s development.

By focusing on our colleagues’ wellbeing and skills training we are able to satisfy their own personal motivation and passion for their job. This in turn, we believe, will translate to customer satisfaction and bring the hotel increased profit.
